The ex-president's intense urge for payback has swiftly transformed into a methodical system. Over the twelve months, the leader's fury and impulses have taken on the guise of government actions in ways reminiscent to earlier dictatorial governments. Federal figures who resist his demands are summarily fired and replaced by loyalists. Critical leaders who challenge him encounter legal action, court proceedings and punishment. Adversaries have been categorized under presidential orders as “hostile to national interests”, “against faith communities” and “anti-capitalist”, and threatened with legal action as “terrorists”.
Federal Agencies Restructured
Every case involving targeting of Trump's enemies and protection for supporters exhibits its own unique characteristics. But, regardless of their individual form, they exemplify manifestations of what has developed as a systematic technique. Those incidents are far from coincidental. Trump's removal of DoJ lawyers and Federal Bureau of Investigation officials, accompanied by his appointment of loyalists in high-level roles, commenced swiftly, soon assumed a regularity, and has now been formed into a structure. Federal prosecutors and the Federal Bureau have been transformed into political agencies under his explicit direction to carry out his wishes. Unfairness has been made normal. This is the system of punishment.
Leadership is preoccupied with targeting the chief's supposed enemies than they are with defending our national security.
Inside the Apparatus
The origin of this mechanism has been revealed in the lawsuit of several ex- top law enforcement executives submitted in late summer in the judicial system in the capital against top official a senior appointee and top lawyer a key figure for unlawful firing in “a effort of payback against them for what administration figures considered to be a failure to show proper political loyalty”. The document states that a former acting director, the previous interim leader, details a conversation in which Patel “publicly admitted the illegality of his behavior”.
Driscoll had attempted to protect FBI agents from being dismissed, the complaint alleges. He told him that “they” – perceived by the official to be the presidential administration and justice department – had directed him to remove anyone who they identified as having participated in a criminal investigation against him. The filing adds: “Patel stated that he had to dismiss the individuals his superiors told him to fire, because his capacity to retain his own role was contingent on the ouster of the agents who worked on investigations involving the chief executive. Patel noted that there was nothing he or Driscoll could do to prevent these or any other firings, because ‘the FBI tried to place the chief in jail and he remembers.’” Once he informed Patel he was disregarding the bureau's own regulations, Patel supposedly said “he recognized that and he realized the nature of the immediate dismissals were likely improper”.
Widespread Consequences
Since Patel's alleged admission to the official, the DoJ and the FBI have been dismantled and redirected for Trump's revenge apparatus. Several of the bureau's top officials were dismissed or compelled to leave in the early weeks of the government. Approximately 4,500 lawyers at DoJ have accepted a “early exit scheme”. At least seven federal prosecutors, including those in the Manhattan division, quit in dissent over what they regarded as partisan influence in dropping the legal action against the local official, a political figure, in exchange for his cooperation with Trump's Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrests of foreign nationals. The ethics division of DoJ, which oversees corruption cases, has been reduced to minimal staff. The civil rights division has been severely reduced: 70% of its staff has departed. A third of top officials at DoJ have resigned. The section enforcing ecological regulations has seen departures of a majority its management.
Rewards and Sanctions
Regarding the legal matter, the acting US attorney for the NY office, the official, stepped down in objection against what she described as the “exchange”. A key figure, his “immigration leader,” was present as the agent with him on television to announce: “If he doesn't come through, I'll be back in the city.”. And, another figure, previously the justice department figure and a past legal representative, who arranged the deal, was awarded an court role, a likely stepping stone to the supreme court.
His exemption for crimes committed while in power, granted by the unprecedented decision of the GOP-led on the supreme court, thus thwarting his legal action over the political violence and preserving his public standing for the presidential race, is the cornerstone on which he depends to shield his stalwarts. Under these circumstances, he has been freed to permit corruption. The consequence of the court judgment permeates his administration and the GOP down to its bones. The legal case has escalated. In the words of a past leader's legal adviser he said about the Watergate
