Together Is Now Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Partnership.

We present a dare for long-term couples who enjoy scary movies: Settle in with your significant other and watch Together. The critically acclaimed 2025 movie just made its launch on a streaming platform on the Hulu service. Outwardly, it might appear like standard physical horror, but beneath Together lies a profound meditation about our choices in loving each other.

A Directorial Debut Exploring The Nuances of Love

Together is the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It features the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as a couple named Tim and Millie, a pair who are not married that have been together for over ten years. Married in real life in 2017, Franco and Brie contribute a particular energy to their portrayals, skillfully embodying both the strengths and weaknesses of a long-term relationship.

The plot begins when Millie and Tim move from the urban environment to the countryside for Millie’s job. A commonly used plot device, sure, but that’s mostly where the tropes conclude. Together transforms into as much a psychological exploration of the partnership as it is a film about physical terror.

A Paranormal Spark

While trekking near their new home, a storm hits, and the protagonists fall into an hole in the earth. After spending the night there and finally finding a way out, a supernatural entity begins influencing the pair. This force induces a otherworldly bond between them that goes well past emotional intimacy.

The whole movie is a slow burn of scares, weaving in moments of fever-dream horrors, unsettling (but never too gross) body horror, and genuinely funny exchanges (sometimes during something horrific). Shanks orchestrates these parts seamlessly and wraps them up in a slowly mounting sense of impending doom.

Complex Characterizations

A significant portion of Together is exclusively the performances of its stars, and they skillfully illustrate countless layers to the partnership at the film's core. Her self-assurance and sense of connection is deteriorating due to a lack of intimacy. Her subconscious resentment of Tim for his unwillingness to pursue anything but his floundering music career inexorably rises.

In contrast, Tim's character experiences isolation and isolated by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve relocated rural and distant from his support system. He fears the idea of totally forfeiting his individual identity in his partner. This fear is intensified by the circumstance he lacks a driver's license and is dependent on Millie for getting around.

The film's most intelligent aspect in Together refrains from painting one partner or the other the obvious villain.

The couple face the kind of problems that arise in any relationship after ten years. Deep down, they have affection for one another. They share moments of joy, comfort one another, and open up at times. But below this facade, there’s an inescapable current of uncertainty about their relationship.

Thematic Depth

While the otherworldly presence in Together act as a metaphor for these concerns of excessive reliance and fully committing to a partner, the symbolism does not come across as clumsy or self-important. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments provide a perfect parallel to the character-driven drama. Both the horror and the drama work together in harmony.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s final act, which won’t be spoiled here, has sparked debate on the story's concluding statement about codependent relationships. It has been said that unattached audience members have interpreted the film as a compelling reason for staying single. On the other hand, some couples experiencing tension found that the film ended up guiding them to reconcile.

Whether you’re single or coupled up, your own response could act as a telling indicator of how you view relationships. Will the finale sow feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a uplifting feeling of optimism? Will you identify in either protagonist and scream at your TV, or simply turn to your other half and state, “I’d do that for you”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an experiment you can experience today.

Together is streaming on Hulu as of this moment.
